LANCE DE LOS REYES

Mysticism mixes with poetry and paint in Bushwick

Photography: Rob Forbes

I first met Lance when I lived in Chinatown. He was skateboarding down Orchard St. with Roman strapped to his chest in a BabyBjorn. Safe to say not many dads can pull that one off. He stopped briefly to compliment Matias on his hair and I’ve followed his work ever since.

Lance De Los Reyes' paintings and writing communicate mystical truths and complexities. He references archetypes that blur the line between sacred beliefs, archaic languages and inventive symbols, saturating his work with a profound sense of meaning. Reyes’ paintings have been exhibited at The Hole, Allouche Gallery and Circle Culture. His handwritten poetry is typically unveiled in unexpected public places.

We met with Lance while he was painting at his studio in Bushwick where he spoke to us about symbolism, spirituality and mysticism. Roman showed us some of his very impressive painting skills as well.
